WE BE BURNIN'

Three nights in a row...didn't think i could keep the momentum up but wow, my love for playing has given me the stamina of the 18 year old version of me.

Thursday night was WHISKY MIST, for the dirty dirty hip hop night.  With alot of help from Harvey, March, Charly and Ash that room was farenheit 450.  It actually made tuesday night look tame.  There was something up with the lights so the ambience was not dissimilar to the bat cave and someone has done something to the bass speakers in there so the whole room throbs when you play a dirty south track but i've never seen such a beautiful melting pot of people.

Classic dj moment number 4578:
A gentleman wearing the remains of his city boy suit comes up to me and explains that he's from Australia and that he used to do 'this sort of thing' when he was a lad back in Oz.  He felt that what i was playing was a little lacking and that I needed to play something with a beat (yes i smiled at that point too cos i've yet to hear a hip hop song without this strange and rare tool of music in it!!).  Apparantly i needed to play something really 'pumping' to get the (already insanely crazy) crowd going.  For the record, i was playing Black Eyed Peas "Pump It" which by definition can be classed as a pretty 'pumping' track.  I mean, it even says so in the title!  So i considered giving him one of my Air Force Ones to wave in the air to give him extra bounce, but then remembered he was Australian so there really was no hope.

I also later got tipped to play Black Eyed Peas "I got a feeling" which i actually had queued up at the time - score.  I like psychic tippers.  Bring me more.

Can i make a note at this point that i did play artists other than Black Eyed Peas....i played Fergie too!!

Friday night at MADDOX, oy vey!  Friday night...where do i start.  I don't even know how to put into words how utterly and brilliantly insane it was in there.  I can safely say though that the true highlight of my night was playing Backstreet Boys and the look of sheer delight on everyone's faces when they realised what it was.  I love outing you all on that one - you bunch of teenage girls you.

My overly friendly demeanor got me into a spot of bother later though - my rule of thumb is smile, high five, touch bruv, high five, hug it out, whatever people wanna do when they come up to show their appreciation for what i'm playing.  After all, the dj and dancefloor are a team - i'm only good if you dance...and i'm only great if you swing off the light fittings (thanks Alex - you have olympic skills on that) and you know you're onto a good thing when you see crutches in the air - infact that almost gave me a god complex....yes my child, from the godly power of my beautiful music, you can walk again....your broken foot is healed!  Anyway, I digress...as i was saying, the human touch - you come up to thank me, i thank you back...but there's me all smiling and being all friendly in the mix and someone's asking for my number.  Now i never give my number out, but i'm always glad to take someone elses  - especially when they're talking about events and wanting me to play...  Yes...play...that word that means so many different things...now in a DJ world, play means playing music...but i forget in the heated, sexually fueled room that i have helped create, play takes on a whole new meaning.  So when i get my phone back from someone who wants me to play for them in the future,  the words 'sexy hot brazilian guy from maddox' are written next to the new number.  Oops.  I then couldn't get rid of the poor chap all night.  But at 3am when i've played for 3 hours, yet another attempt to convince me to go back and 'play' at yours is just going to be met with a very very frustrated no.  So i'm sorry mr brazilian, that i wasn't more gracious in refusing you, but dang you were persistent.

Dee dee da da daah.  Saturday nite at TAMAN GANG.  Love it.  I had rude gyal butts gyrating in my face, bar tenders pouring shots straight from the bottle into peoples mouths, so many sparklers that we're gonna have a shortage by Nov 5th and my girls in attendance showing the bridge and tunnel crew how it's done.  I get to play a pure house and hip hop set here so i'm fully in my element, teasing the crowd with david bowie remixes, chunks of Deadmau5 and that sexy sexy swing remix 'why don't you'.  Then, sliding straight into Beenie Man, Ice Cube and Eve for the sexiest night out there.  Have i said sexy too much yet?  I did make a relatively early departure though, 3 nights of djing in 5 inch heels takes its toll on you i'll have you know.  My roommate, Jodie Harsh and I, ought to have a sponsorship from a pedicure salon...hint hint... cos i don't see many other dj's out there rocking it for hours on end in 5 inchers!!

This thursday, Whisky Mist is all about swagga - so make sure everyone coming down is dressed to impress.

Friday night at Maddox - the theme is rock gods and their muses (read groupies) - so go rent Almost Famous and stock up on elnet

til next time.... now i sleep.
